PHYSICAL ARTWORKS
Walter & Zoniel create mixed media works, exploring the human condition from the perspective of connection to the sublime. They often utilising both antique photographic process as well as developing technologies.
They have used the construct of ‘The Portrait’ both sculpturally and photographically, as a means to interpret their world. Their portraits are as much about the act of storytelling as they are about their subjects. The acts of interpretation, perception, likeness, are imbibed in each process that they have created to make each of their portrait artworks.
Their subjects have ranged from living beings and man made objects to the natural world and more nebulous elements such as songs. Each subject, the artists treat as a portrait. Their portraits explore their overarching themes of oneness, of connection, of the essence of the human condition and connection to the sublime.
‘We are in love with the magical nature of photography.
It’s the only art form which combines science and mysticism and that is what we are exploring when we deconstruct it’s methods and create our own take on them. Its the physical, creative process that fascinates us and drives us to find new ways of utilising it.
The artwork we create uses photography in a physical, deconstructed way. We love the imperfections, they are gateways to the stories of our creative process and to the deeper concepts that can be explored within all of our work.'
